FinTech GIMV Fund L.P., held its First Closing in the amount of US$55 million on 18 December 2007. Investors include FGI, GIMV and the Development Bank of Japan.

The Fund will make venture and expansion capital investments primarily in information and communication technologies and life sciences technology companies in Japan, Europe and the USA. It is anticipated that between USD 3-7 million will be invested in each portfolio company.

Lead legal counsel to the Fund was SJ Berwin LLP who advised on the structuring of the Fund, the key documentation and negotiations with investors. The SJ Berwin LLP team was headed by partner Sonya Pauls from the Munich office who was assisted by associate Adam Lippiett and trainee solicitor Tom Smith.

The Fund was advised on Jersey legal and regulatory issues by Ogier and all Japanese tax, legal and regulatory issues were addressed by Nishimura & Asahi.
