The Civil Procedure Rules require all courts to encourage litigants to use ADR and to facilitate its use. Alternative Dispute Resolution is a general term describing a variety of ways to resolve disputes without a conventional court trial. ADR has many benefits: it may save time and money, allow flexibility, offer more control, preserve relationships, offer confidentiality and provide finality.
