Practice Areas | Commerce & Technology

Consistently rated as one of the top legal teams in its sector in the UK, our Commerce & Technology Group is a specialist team of lawyers who deal in the full range of commercial and intellectual property law on a day-to-day basis. We form part of the larger Commercial Department within SJ Berwin and work closely with other departments to provide a seamless service to clients.

Dealing exclusively with commercial legal issues, the Group is able to focus on the business needs of our clients, advising them and preparing agreements for them to put their domestic and international commercial arrangements into place. The Group has considerable expertise in reviewing and negotiating existing and proposed contractual and intellectual property arrangements, successfully anticipating and pin-pointing legal and commercial risks for its clients, providing solutions to help reduce those risks and preparing clear, workable contracts.

The resources, depth of experience and knowledge within the Group enable us to advise on the full range of commercial disciplines, including:

  • Agency, distribution and franchising
  • Consumer legislation
  • Data protection
  • E-commerce
  • General contract law issues
  • Intellectual property
  • IT
  • Manufacturing
  • Marketing
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Sale of goods and supply of services
  • Sponsorship, advertising and sales promotions
  • Technology transfer and R&D agreements

Most members of the group have in-house experience, having been seconded to various of our major clients.

We are co-authors of the Tolley's loose-leaf publication "E-Contracts", Butterworths 2001-2003 and regular speakers at conferences in the UK and abroad. We also write features and monthly briefings for "In-House Lawyer" magazine.
