David Calligan specialises in securities law and acts for securities firms in the US, Canada and the UK.

Following four years with an investment management subsidiary of Midland Bank, he joined the London Stock Exchange's Surveillance Division in 1985. In 1988 he joined The Securities Association and led a team of inspectors as a front line regulator under the new Financial Services Act regime.

In 1989 he moved to SJ Berwin and qualified as a solicitor in 1992. David advises on a wide range of securities and compliance matters including the regulatory aspects of mergers and acquisitions in the financial services sector. He has advised many firms on how to establish their business in the UK and how to obtain regulatory approval and membership of various stock exchanges. He has recently acted for electronic trading platform providers in swaps and foreign exchange in connection with their authorisation by The Financial Services Authority.
