Richard Belsey is an associate solicitor in the Corporate Finance Department. Richard studied law at Brunel University and joined SJ Berwin LLP in September 2006, having previously trained at Wedlake Bell in London.

Richard deals with all aspects of corporate finance M&A work, both public and private, including public takeovers, fundraisings and IPOs, company and business acquisitions and disposals, venture capital, joint ventures, reorganisations and MBOs. Prior to joining the firm, Richard worked on secondment for six months with Diageo plc. During his secondment he advised on a range of commercial and corporate law issues, including agency and distribution agreements, customer trade terms and confidentiality agreements.

Over the past twelve months, Richard has assisted Westfield Group on its joint venture with Queensland Investment Corporation, in which it sold a 50% interest in its Merry Hill Shopping Centre to QIC for £524million, and the establishment of its Westfield Core UK Shopping Centre Fund for £540million. Richard has also assisted CPC Group with the establishment of its joint venture with Qatari Diar, Project Blue (Guernsey) Limited, in connection with its landmark purchase of the Chelsea Barracks.
