Ray Black is a partner and the head of SJ Berwin's Intellectual Property Group.
Ray’s practice covers all aspects of intellectual property including trade mark and
design registration and protection, advising on all kinds of intellectual property
rights, development and implementation of anticounterfeiting strategies,
enforcement of all intellectual property rights including patents, trade marks
designs, copyrights, goodwill and confidential information.
Ray worked in Hong Kong from 1977-1991 where he developed and headed his
previous firm’s Asian Intellectual Property practice. Ray is leading the firm’s
China Initiative.
Ray represents many leading intellectual property owners from diverse industries
including the clothing, entertainment, environmental, financial services, food,
healthcare, luxury goods, pharmaceuticals, sports, telecoms and toy sectors.
Ray is known as a leading individual in the field of IP, in the UK Chambers Guide,
Chambers Global, Chambers Europe 2007, Legal 500 2005 - 2006, Who’s Who
Legal 2005 and PLC 2006

Ray is a founder member of the INTA Panel of Neutrals (which was set up in May
2003) and is also an accredited mediator of CEDR (Centre for Dispute Resolution).
Ray is also a member of several well established organisations including the
International Trade Marks Association, the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group, the
International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition and the Anti-Counterfeiting Group.
