Stewart White joined SJ Berwin as a senior consultant in the Media and Communications Group in August 2007.
He has extensive, worldwide experience with a global network of contacts as an adviser on major strategic, commercial, public policy and regulatory issues to achieve successful outcomes. He has extensive experience of working in the Middle East.
Stewart draws on more than 25 years' experience as a highly regarded international lawyer specialising in Telecoms and Media, and other regulated industries. In so doing, he has worked in over 30 jurisdictions worldwide.
After moving to the UK from Australia, Stewart was a partner at both Denton Hall and Ashurst. During his time in private practice, he acted on a wide range of satellite-related commercial and regulatory/policy matters, his clients including SES, Sky Television (now BSkyB), Eutelsat, CNN, PanAmSat, ETISALAT, ICO, ARABSAT, INMARSAT and Thuraya.
After leaving Ashurst, he was appointed Vodafone’s first Group Public Policy Director responsible for Vodafone Group's worldwide regulatory and public policy function for seven years, coordinating Vodafone’s policy positions and dealings with governments and regulators across the world at very senior levels. He was described by the then CEO, Sir Christopher Gent, as Vodafone’s ‘Foreign Minister’.
He remains an advisor to the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union.
Stewart has co-authored (with Tim Johnson and Stephen Bate) Satellite Communications in Europe: Law and Regulations (2nd Edition, FT Law and Tax 1996).
