Bryan Pickup is a partner in the Real Estate Division at SJ Berwin, having been a partner at the firm since 1988 and Head of the Division until December 2007. He is now, with Laura O’Neill, responsible for the firm’s graduate recruitment and trainee development.

He has experience of a wide range of commercial property transactions, acting for a number of household names, including investors, landlords, tenants and developers.
He has been praised in the legal directories for being "measured and astute", "an excellent frontman", and “more hands-on, responsive and quicker than most”.

Recent work includes:

  • Acting for The Crown Estate in connection with the redevelopment of several major mixed use blocks in Regent Street, and the letting of shops and offices including flagship stores for Apple, Bose, Habitat, Lacoste, National Geographic, Quiksilver, Ted Baker and portfolio management of Regent Street generally;
  • Acting for The Crown Estate on major office, retail, hotel and restaurant developments in St James and Piccadilly and the redevelopment of Ascot Racecourse;
  • Acting for Sea Containers on the sale of the ports of Newhaven and Folkestone;
  • Acting for offshore investors on the acquisition, funding and development of Bowater House, Knightsbridge (now One Hyde Park), the former Middlesex Hospital site (now Noho Square) and other high value and high profile Candy and Candy residential-led schemes;
  • Acting for The Co-operative Insurance Society on its office and industrial investment portfolios;
  • Acting for The Conservative Party on the sale of its former headquarters on Smith Square, and its move to Millbank; and
  • Acting for an Oxford College on the sale for development purposes of a substantial city centre site in Oxford and related tax, planning and tenancy issues.
