Matthew has advised in relation to retail, office, business park and mixed-use schemes on a wide variety of planning, highways and compulsory purchase matters. His work has included large planning and infrastructure agreements, appeals and inquiry work, judicial review proceedings and stopping up orders. Matthew has extensive experience of the planning, highways and compulsory purchase aspects of large town centre redevelopments, having worked on projects in Bath, Winchester and Worcester.
His work has included negotiating interim and full CPO indemnity agreements, drafting sections of statements of reasons for CPOs, involvement in land referencing procedures to determine the extent of the CPO plans and detail of the schedules and the planning aspects of development agreements. He also has experience of Lands Tribunal proceedings. Matthew initially trained with Surrey County Council, qualifying in October 1997, and subsequently spent three years as a planning and highways solicitor with Hertfordshire County Council before joining SJ Berwin.
