Hilton has extensive expertise in large scale international commercial litigation, shareholder/joint venture disputes, banking litigation and regulatory investigations. He coordinates the International Litigation and Fraud Practice Group and is an established leader in the field. He is recognised as a leading specialist for contentious issues arising in the private equity sector.
He is recognised in the leading independent directories, Chambers, Chambers Global and Legal 500, as a leader in his field in both the commercial litigation and civil fraud sectors. Described in Chambers as "brilliant in his advice and attention to detail" and as routinely being credited as an expert strategist and as an "accessible, intelligent and forceful character". In Legal 500 he is described as having "exceptional negotiating skills" and as a successful solicitor advocate "lauded for his doggedness and ability to think laterally". He is listed in The International Who's Who of Commercial Litigators 2006.
He has built up extensive experience in bringing cases to a successful resolution
prior to trial. Hilton is a solicitor advocate with higher rights of audience and he is
also an ADR Group Accredited Mediator. He acts regularly for institutional clients
and in high profile reported cases.
Hilton is regularly quoted in legal journals on commercial litigation issues. He chairs the prestigious Butterworths/LexisNexis Fraud and International Litigation Conference. He is a founder member of the Commercial Litigators Forum which includes representatives of all the major litigation practices.
Examples of the work he has recently undertaken include:
- Obtaining worldwide freezing injunctions on a multi million pound fraud case
- Obtaining an injunction from the English Court to freeze assets in Spain in support of Canadian proceedings
- Successfully acted as advocate in a key interlocutory hearing on behalf of major institutional clients in a billion pound dispute
- Acted in a leading Court of Appeal case on the scope of the unfair prejudice
remedy in a shareholders dispute - Involved in providing strategic advice in contested shareholder disputes in relation to a listed company
- Acted in high court proceedings in the private equity sector on the removal of a
general partner - Acted on behalf of a Bank as advocate in relation to an anti suit injunction and
subsequent settlement at mediation - Serious Fraud Office and FSA investigations in the financial services sector.
