Philipp Girardet is an associate in the firm’s EU & Competition department.
Philipp advises on a broad range of competition law and regulatory issues in a number of different industry sectors, including telecoms, water, music and film. He has particular expertise in cartel and leniency issues. Philipp also has experience of advising on complex licensing and merger issues both at EU and national and has advised on contentious matters before the Competition Appeal Tribunal, the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
Prior to joining SJ Berwin LLP, Philipp was the Deputy Director of Cartel Investigations at the OFT where he was responsible for the OFT's civil cartel cases and for developing and operating the OFT's leniency policy. He also worked on criminal cartel offence investigations. Philipp chaired the ECN Leniency Working Group for two years and is the co-author of the ECN Model Leniency Programme. He represented the OFT on cartel issues both nationally and internationally and worked closely with the European Commission and the US Department of Justice on a broad range of competition policy issues. He frequently publishes and speaks on cartel issues.
Before joining the OFT, Philipp was an associate in the EU & Competition team of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London. Philipp studied politics at IEP/Sciences Po Paris and obtained a Masters degree from Jesus College, Oxford in Philosophy, Politics and Economics before qualifying as a lawyer.
