Based in London and Brussels, Elaine Gibson-Bolton specialises in both UK and European Community law with a particular emphasis on competition and regulatory law. She regularly represents clients before the European Commission, CFI, ECJ, OFT, DTI, the CC and utility regulators. Elaine joined the practice in 1993 and became a partner in 1997.

In the eighteen years since qualification, she has gained extensive experience in all aspects of UK and EU competition law. She has also developed a particular expertise in the application of the EC Merger Regulation and domestic and international merger provisions to complex private equity transactions, advising a range of funds and investors in close conjunction with the firm's Private Equity Group.

Her varied practice spans a broad range of industries and she has a particular specialisation in regulated industries including media (particularly all aspects of television), energy and air transport. She represented AES Corporation before the CC in its investigation into wholesale electricity generation pricing, for which her team won Legal Business "Competition Team of the Year".

In recent years, Elaine has gained considerable experience in representing clients involved in cartel investigations and also in the litigation of competition law and trade in the Community courts. Elaine received a scholarship to carry out post-graduate studies in European Law at the University of Amsterdam in 1984, and since then Elaine has worked in private practice in both London and Brussels. Elaine lectures widely on EU and competition law.

She continues to divide her working week between London and Brussels, generally spending two days every week in Brussels.
