Nikolina Babic is an associate in SJ Berwin LLP’s Planning and Environment Group and provides advice on a broad range of planning and environmental law matters. Prior to joining SJ Berwin in July 2007, Nikolina has held positions in the UK within the London Development Agency (where she was involved in the development and implementation of government policies for land use management and brownfield land regeneration) and within the Judicial Review Unit of the Treasury Solicitor’s Depar tment (defending administrative law claims brought against the UK Government).

Nikolina is qualified as a barrister and solicitor in Australia, which gives her a valuable cross-jurisdictional insight into the field of environmental and planning law. In Australia, Nikolina was an environmental lawyer within the Department of Environmental Protection in Perth. She was heavily involved in regulatory reform for effective air pollution management. Nikolina advised the Minister for Environment on issues pertaining to contaminated land remediation and project-managed large scale environmental crime prosecutions. Nikolina also sat as a member of the Northern Territory Law Reform Committee, which was responsible for developing detailed law reform proposals for consideration by the Attorney General.

Nikolina has lectured in environmental and planning law at Northern Territory University, Darwin and has had her legal research efforts acknowledged in several environmental law journals.

Nikolina holds a Master of International and Community Development, an Honours Degree in Law and a First Class Honours Degree in Environmental Science.
