Davide Balboni leads the EU and Competition law department in Italy. He joined SJ Berwin in April 2008 after having worked for 7 years in the EU & Competition department of Baker & McKenzie.

Davide's main area of practice is EC/Italian competition law, where he accrued a significant experience on cartels and issues relating to abuse of dominant position (in the realm of both Community and national competition law), including assistance to clients in a number of proceedings before the Italian Competition Authority and the European Commission. Davide is regularly involved in pre-merger filing activities, securing clearances of all kind of transactions notified before the European Commission or national competition authorities. He assists companies in their business development in compliance with EC/Italian competition law, also in projecting and presenting competition law compliance training program to managers and employees, as well as in the restructuring or reorganization of companies' distribution policy and commercial network. Davide regularly reviews distribution and franchising contracts, licensing agreements and technology transfer agreements.

He graduated in Law at the Catholic University of Milan with full marks discussing a final thesis on "The legitimacy of monopolistic power under EC Competition law. Article 90 of the Treaty". He attended the International Trade Law post-graduate course organized by the University Institute of European Studies of Turin. He won a six months scholarship, specialising in competition law at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in London and he did a six months stage with the Legal service of the Italian Antitrust Authority. He is admitted to practice in Italy.

His native language is Italian. He also speaks English, Spanish and French fluently.
