Claire joined SJ Berwin during September 2007, having trained and qualified in Scotland.  Since joining the firm’s Employment Team she has worked on both contentious and non contentious issues advising both employers and senior executives.

Over the past six years she has built up considerable Tribunal experience, appearing at the Scottish EAT and Tribunals across the UK. She has represented clients on a wide variety of issues including unfair dismissal, sex discrimination, disability discrimination, whistle-blowing, breach of contract, illegal deduction from wages and working time issues to name a few.

On the non-contentious side, Claire is regularly involved in assisting her corporate colleagues on the employment law aspects of major corporate transactions, including drafting warranties and indemnities and advising on strategic issues of the transactions.  She also advises clients at the earliest possible stage to avoid disputes arising and claims being lodged.  Such advice has covered several areas including TUPE, dealing with trade union issues, restrictive covenants, disciplinary procedures, absence and performance management, redundancy procedures, maternity and parental rights including requests under the flexible working regulations and discrimination issues.
