Nick Anstee

Nick Anstee, senior director at international law firm SJ Berwin, today commences his term as Lord Mayor of the City of London.

He is the 682nd Lord Mayor and will serve for a year from Friday 13 November 2009.

Nick joined SJ Berwin in August 2007. A chartered accountant who qualified in 1982 and became a partner first at Andersen and then at Deloitte, Nick has spent most of his career advising large domestic and international companies on private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions and stock market flotations.

Nick has served the City for 22 years, first as a Councilman in 1987, then as Alderman for the Ward of Aldersgate in 1996, then for three years as Chairman of the Corporation’s Central Markets Committee, and as Sheriff of the City of London in 2003-04.

The Lord Mayor is elected annually and is the head of the City of London Corporation. During his year in office Nick will act as global ambassador for the whole UK-based financial services industry, typically spending three months a year leading City business delegations overseas – and also meeting leading overseas politicians and business leaders visiting London’s financial community.

Jonathan Blake, senior partner of SJ Berwin, said: “Nick Anstee sums up everything good about the City - its creativity, its energy and its ability to adapt to fast changing times. Nick’s knowledge of finance, of the professions and of the inner workings of the City make him exceptionally well-placed to represent the City on the world stage and to champion constructive change. I and everyone at SJ Berwin wish him all the very best.”
