Senior Associate Jason Nield qualified as a Barrister in 1996 and as a Solicitor in 2002. He was also admitted to the State Bar of New York in 1999.
Jason specialises in outsourcing, technology, IT services, telecommunications agreements and commercial contracts and joined SJ Berwin in June 2008 from Fujitsu where, most recently, he was Head of Legal for Continental Europe at Fujitsu Services and formerly General Counsel at Fujitsu Consulting. He has also held domestic and international positions with British Telecom and Lucent Technologies. Jason has assumed the legal and commercial lead within numerous in-house bid teams, both at tender and negotiation stages of the deal cycle. His experience spans domestic, pan-European, US and global transactions. He has particular experience of structuring and negotiating large scale technology transactions, renegotiating existing agreements and managing the internal approval process at board level.
His telecoms experience includes significant time operating both in Europe and the United States while at BT during which time he spent 8 months working between New York and Washington DC on a global outsourcing deal with CSC. Jason coordinated the national and US arms of BT as well as performing a liaison role with MCI who were partnering BT on the deal. Essentially framework in structure, the first agreement under negotiation was valued at $1.5bn.
While at Lucent Technologies, he was involved in bidding for and rolling-out UMTS networks infrastructure projects across Europe and more recently Jason also supported Fujitsu Services in a deal with one of Ireland’s largest mobile telephony companies for the design, build and operation of a mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE) system in Ireland.
Jason’s extensive IT experience includes complex systems development and systems integration projects through to structuring and negotiating outsourcing agreements. Other experience includes leading a global managed telecommunications services deal with Merrill Lynch, supporting a sizeable ICT based PFI deal for an NHS trust, a pan-European helpdesk & desktop outsource for a major pharmaceutical company, as well as numerous outsourcing, managed service and EPOS system deals.
