Emma van Haaster is an Australian qualified lawyer in the Commerce and Technology Group, having joined SJ Berwin in September 2006. Before joining SJ Berwin, Emma worked as corporate counsel for Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and prior to that practised in the commercial department of Deacons in Melbourne for over 3 years following qualification in April 2002.

Emma advises on all aspects of general contractual, commercial and intellectual property law across a wide range of industry sectors, with particular expertise in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. Emma also regularly advises on matters relating to procurement, licensing and commercialisation, information technology and e-commerce, agency and distribution and data protection.  Emma's experience in these areas is primarily focused on drafting, negotiating and advising on contractual arrangements.

Emma has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Genetics) from the University of Melbourne.
