Competition Spotlight on the Pharma Industry: Recent UK and EU Developments
Tuesday 24th January 2006
at 222 Gray's Inn Road, London WC1X 8XF

An Evening Seminar highlighting what the recent announcements by the Office of Fair Trading could mean for your company. The OFT has just announced that it intends to increase its scrutiny of the healthcare sector due to concerns over the pricing of drugs and the delay of generic drugs in coming to market. This seminar will discuss

  • pricing issues in light of recent OFT cases and
  • announcements; and generic access and entry

Background
The OFT has announced that Britain's £20 billion healthcare sector is to come under intense competition scrutiny amid fears drug prices are being kept artificially high and access to new medicines is being restricted. Philip Collins, the OFT's new chairman, has publicly stated that the OFT may launch challenges against deals between manufacturers of branded drugs and generic drug companies to delay the entry of cheaper generics on to the market. This would mirror the situation in the US where such cases have been brought by the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission for several years.
