Thursday 8th December 2005
at 222 Gray's Inn Road, London WC1X 8XF

SJ Berwin LLP has pleasure in inviting you to a breakfast seminar looking at the emergence of mediation and developments in international arbitration in the resolution of European disputes.

Background
We have a programme that is designed to give an inside view of the current developments from two of the leaders in the UK of mediation and arbitration in international disputes. The programme will start with Phillip Howell-Richardson, who is one of the top mediators in the UK and Europe today. He will investigate some of the particular characteristics of international mediation, why it has emerged and how far it has developed in recent years. He will conclude by highlighting some of the emerging trends and opportunities for parties to obtain early settlements in mediation. Then Per Runeland, one of Europe's most experienced arbitrators, with 35 years experience in international arbitration will look at the factors that are frequently considered when parties are choosing arbitration and will then go on to examine how arbitration is particularly effective in bringing results.

Programme
In international disputes, a day in court may mean in fact a day before an arbitral tribunal. It increasingly may also mean a day of mediation. This seminar examines why parties are choosing mediation or arbitration to resolve their international disputes and looks at the power and adaptability of both processes as well as the trends that are emerging. Procedures and useful guidance will be given by two of the leaders in these developments.
