Launch of the Pakistan Private Equity and Venture Capital Association of Europe (PVCAE)
Thursday 12th June 2008
at 10 Queen Street Place, London, EC4R 1BE

Background:
Pakistan is a country in the midst of rapid economic development, its economy having grown at a rate of over 7% annually for the last 4 years and estimated to grow by 7.2% in 2008. The World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Report (2008) stated that Pakistan was the top performer in terms of economic reforms in South Asia. The market offers a diverse range of investment possibilities, particularly in the energy, communications, manufacturing, information technology and real estate sectors.

The Pakistan Private Equity and Venture Capital Association of Europe (PVCAE) has been established as a European based association representing the interests of European private equity and venture capital investors looking to invest in Pakistan. Its formation is crucially timed with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) issuing draft 'Private Equity and Venture Capital Regulations', a Task Force for Venture Capital being chaired by the Ministry of Finance, and with a changing political landscape now taking shape as the economy continues to show resilience and potential.

The objectives of the PVCAE are to provide potential investors with the essential market information required to make informed investor decisions, to be a platform for networking and sharing knowledge and experiences, and to be a conduit through which to relay to the Pakistan Government and regulatory authorities (specifically the SECP) the views and concerns of European investors in relation to policy making.

The founder members of the PVCAE include Nomura, JS Group, Coller Capital, Tigris Financial, Hamilton Bradshaw, CDC Group plc, SJ Berwin LLP and the Commonwealth Business Council.
