Deadly Serious
Thursday 6th March 2008
at 10 Queen Street Place London, EC4R 1BE

This is the first Breakfast Seminar in the Spring Series presented by the Employment & Pensions Group, together with members of the Planning & Environment Group.

Background:
A new law on corporate manslaughter was part of Labour’s 1997 election manifesto, but it took 10 years to get the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 onto the statute book. The new Act comes into force on 6 April 2008. As well as creating a new offence of corporate manslaughter for work-related deaths, it creates new penalties such as publicity orders.

Programme:
In this seminar we will consider:

  • The existing law relating to corporate manslaughter and work-related deaths;
  • The main changes introduced by the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 and the impact this will have on organisations and individuals; and
  • Practical steps that organisations can take to minimise the risk of liability under the new Act and under health and safety law generally.

Timetable:
08.15  Introduction
08.30  Workshop and Breakfast
09.20  Summing Up / Questions & Answers
09.30  Post Seminar Refreshments
