Mind the Bump: what to expect if your employees are expecting
Thursday 18th September 2008
at 10 Queen Street Place, London EC4R 1BE
This is the first Breakfast Seminar in the Autumn Series presented by the Employment Group of SJ Berwin LLP.
Background:
- an overview of family friendly rights, including the impact of the draft Maternity and Parental Leave etc, and Paternity and Adoption Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2008;
- the key issues faced by employers and employees before, during and after maternity leave and practical advice for dealing with these; and
- latest research on the key factors that influence maternity leavers to return to the workplace.
The legislation relating to maternity and family-friendly rights remains a legal minefield. The Governments aim of enhancing the coalition between work and family life has led to the consistent extension of benefits for employees with families. Employers could be forgiven for struggling with the practical implications for their business.
In conjunction with The Executive Coaching Consultancy, our next seminar will consider the latest extension of maternity rights introduced by the Sex Discrimination (Amendment) Regulations 2008 and the draft Maternity and Parental Leave etc. and the Paternity and Adoption Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2008, which are due to come into force on 1 October 2008. We will also consider the key issues which employers and employees face during the various stages of maternity absence, including the practical implications of Keeping in Touch days and flexible working requests. Following lengthy absences, the process of re-integration for maternity leavers does not always run smoothly. We will offer best practice advice, based on the latest research, to encourage maternity leavers to return to the workplace and improve retention.
