European law firm, SJ Berwin LLP's Planning and Environment department has recruited Angus Evers from Norton Rose, as an associate to manage the firm’s environmental law practice, reporting to head of department Simon Ricketts. Angus replaces Sue Davidson, who is emigrating at the end of September to start married life in Australia.
Angus's role will be to manage SJ Berwin’s "traditional" environmental law practice, whilst working with colleagues Emily Peters and Teresa Weeks in the firm’s growing carbon practice, covering renewable energy, the carbon reduction commitment, EU ETS, carbon capture and storage, and legal issues relating to other emerging environmental technologies, legislation and policy.
Angus qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and has specialised in the environmental, health and safety aspects of corporate, banking, real estate and major infrastructure projects. He also has expertise in contentious matters. Clients have included operators and developers of power stations, wind farms (both onshore and offshore), LNG terminals, ports and undersea gas storage facilities.
He has a Master’s degree in Environmental Law and is Convenor of the UK Environmental Law Association’s Waste Working Party and a member of the International Chamber of Commerce UK’s Energy and Environment Committee.
He is ranked as an expert in environmental law in both the Legal 500 and Chambers Directories.
Simon Ricketts, Head of the Planning and Environment Group said, “Over the past couple of years our environmental practice has grown from strength to strength, boosted by the strong demand from clients in today’s ever conscious “green” environment and increasing government regulations. We are sorry to see Sue go, but wish her well and are delighted to welcome Angus, whose expertise will give a further strong impetus to the team.”
