Pan-European venture capital firm Wellington Partners has closed its latest fund, Wellington Partners Ventures IV Technology Fund L.P. (the "Fund"), with total aggregate commitments of €265 million. The Fund is expected to invest in approximately 25 technology companies throughout Europe operating in the fields of digital media and online services, software and electronics.
Investors in the Fund include existing investors Access Capital Partners, AGF Private Equity, AlpInvest Partners, European Investment Fund, Horizon21, König & Cie., The Wellcome Trust, von Braun & Schreiber and WEGA, as well as new investors GIC Special Investments, Pantheon Ventures and Skandia Liv Asset Management.
Through the Fund, Wellington Partners will continue its objective of investing venture capital in young and creative information and communication technology companies that embrace, create and utilize global technology trends. The size of the Fund's investments is expected to average €8.5 million.
Lead legal counsel to the Fund was SJ Berwin LLP who advised on the structuring of the Fund, the key documentation and negotiations with investors. The SJ Berwin LLP team was headed by partner Sonya Pauls from the Munich office who was assisted by associate Gregory Barclay.
The Fund was also advised by Jersey counsel Appleby and US counsel Proskauer Rose LLP.
