SJ Berwin have acted for Chelsfield Plc in connection with the acquistion of a strategic site at 4-8 Emerson Street SE1, part of the Bankside area, from a private investor. Chelsfield already owns the adjoining building in Park Street and is planning to redevelop the whole site.

SJ Berwin also acted for Chelsfield in the sale to clients of Henderson Global Investors of Carlton Plaza in Upper Richmond Road, SW15 for £4.9 million.

Property Partner John Eldridge headed the team at SJ Berwin and was assisted by assistant solicitors Julia Hesselberg and David Hershkorn.

Piper Smith and Basham acted for the vendors of the Emerson Street property and Nicholson Graham and Jones (Wayne Smith) acted for Henderson.

• John Eldridge joined SJ Berwin as a partner in the Property Department in 1983 shortly after the firm's inception.
• He has wide experience in commercial property matters, particularly in the office, retail and hotel sections, acting for amongst others Ladbroke, British Land, Schlumberger, Securum, Chelsfield and Royal Sun Alliance, Merivale Moore and numerous offshore investors.
