SJ Berwin's Real Estate Team has been voted Real Estate Team of the Year by The Lawyer magazine in its annual Lawyer Awards. The appointment follows SJ Berwin's advice to Royal Bank of Scotland on the purchase of two buildings from Canary Wharf Group for £1.1bn, believed to be the largest ever UK office investment acquisition and involved the landmark Citigroup Tower (1.2m sq ft) and 5 Canada Square (515,000 sq ft).

RBS were jointly advised by SJ Berwin and Allen & Overy with the SJ Berwin team including Real Estate partners Stephen Willson and Pat Jones, Corporate partner Michael Goldberg and Tax Partner Heather Corben.

Stephen Willson commented, "This was an exceptionally demanding transaction involving good co-operation and teamwork. We are proud to have been part of this collective effort and delighted The Lawyer has seen fit to recognise this, in making us their Real Estate Team of the Year".

It encompasses Commercial Real Estate, Construction, Planning & Environment, Property Litigation and Real Estate Funds and acts for blue chip clients including British Land, Brixton plc, AXA, the Crown Estate, Marks & Spencer and Gazeley.
