Tuesday 6th April 2004
SJ Berwin's Commercial Litigation Department is pleased to announce the arrival of David Goldberg who joins the firm on 5 April 2004. David will be co-head of the International Arbitration Group alongside Tim Taylor.
David Goldberg's area of expertise is International Arbitration. He has acted as party representative and arbitrator in various jurisdictions in a wide variety of disputes. Being a native Russian speaker and the Secretary General of the Anglo-Russian Law Association he has particular experience in the CIS and Eastern Europe related matters.
Tim Taylor said "David's practice and contacts in the ex CIS countries will add a synergy with our existing practice. As a firm with a particular reputation in cross-border disputes, we have seen a fairly dramatic increase in the number of international arbitrations since the advent of the Woolf Reforms".
David will be concentrating in particular on his contacts in CIS where his reputation speaks for itself. David said "I have chosen SJ Berwin because I see good opportunities of joining forces with the existing arbitration practice of the firm and building a strong and competitive International Arbitration Group."
The volume of litigation in the English High Court has been in decline over recent years and an increasing amount of dispute resolution is taking place by way of arbitration. This has increased dramatically since 1996 when the UK brought into effect a new arbitration regime which is more consistent with international norms as encapsulated by UNCITRAL law on international arbitration.
