Tuesday 18th January 2005

Leading corporate and commercial law firm SJ Berwin has recruited Ann Hieu Ly Ky to its Paris office to further develop the firm’s European real estate capacity. Ann Hieu Ly Ky joins from American law firm Orrick, where she was a partner.

Ann Hieu Ly Ky is a graduate of University of Paris, where she obtained a DEA in Business And Economic Law. She joined Clifford Chance in 1994, followed by Watson, Farley & Williams in 1999 and then was one of the founding team that established Orrick’s Paris office in 2002. She was made partner at Orrick in 2003.

Ann specialises in real estate law, in particular investment acquisitions and sales and real estate financing, operational leasing of industrial buildings and retail premises, commercial town planning (CDEC) and construction.

She joined the firm with assistant Sarah Kreplak-Durand, who started her career in 2001 at Watson, Farley & Williams and then was also at Orrick.

George Pinkham, senior partner of the firm in Paris has stated his aim to develop the firm as a leading player in the real estate market in Paris and to reinforce the firm’s activity in real estate funding. Ann will also take part in cross border activities, particularly coordinating with the UK office.

Ann Hieu Ly Ky’s appointment follows hot on the heels of Colin Millar who has just joined SJ Berwin’s Paris office, to specialise in banking and financial services. These appointments take the number of lawyers in the office to 36, including 12 associates. The firm currently specialises in the creation of investment funds, mergers and acquisitions, taxation, capital investment and off balance sheet financing, primarily advising investment funds, investment banks and industrial groups.

Bryan Pickup, Head of The UK’s real estate group said, “This is a prestigious appointment for us. Ann Hieu Ly Ky is a well known player in the French market and the appointment reflects our determination to build up our European real estate expertise, which a number of our clients are increasingly demanding.”

Please note Ann has been a lawyer at the Court of Paris since 1994. She is bilingual in English and French and Danish and she is the author of the publication “France enacts Public Private Partnership Legislation” published by Euromoney International.
