The provision of our legal services may relate to investments (including insurance contracts). We are not authorised by the UK Financial Services Authority. However, we are included on the register maintained by the Financial Services Authority so that we can carry on insurance mediation activity, which is broadly the advising on, selling and administration of insurance contracts. This part of our business, including arrangements for complaints or redress if something goes wrong, is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. We can also undertake certain activities in relation to other investments which are limited in scope and incidental to our legal services or which may reasonably be regarded as a necessary part of our legal services.

SJ Berwin LLP is committed to providing a high quality legal service to our clients. However, if you are a client and have a problem concerning any of the services provided by us or any of our bills, in the first instance you should speak to the partner responsible on our behalf for the conduct and overall supervision of our work on your matter to resolve the problem. If you do not feel it is appropriate to raise the problem directly with that partner, you should speak with the relevant Head of Department or the firm's Managing Partner. If you are unable to resolve the issue in this manner, your complaint will be dealt with in accordance with our complaints procedure, a copy of which is available on request. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the procedure set out above, you may then refer your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman (“LO”) which is the independent body established under the Legal Services Act 2007 to resolve complaints about legal services. However, you should be aware that the LO’s services are only available to certain types of clients, and there are time limits for lodging a complaint with the LO which require you to refer your complaint to them within six months of the conclusion of our complaints procedure. If your complaint is about our bill, in addition to the above, you may have the right to apply to the court for an assessment of the bill under Part III of the Solicitors Act 1974. We maintain professional indemnity insurance cover as required by the SRA Indemnity Insurance Rules 2011 (as amended from time to time), on a global basis with QBE Insurance (Europe) Limited (whose address is Plantation Place, 30 Fenchurch Street, London, EC3M 3BD).
