Corporate Responsibility : Charitable Causes

For a number of years, we have partnered with a specific charity on an annual basis, bringing together our staff first to choose the charity then in committing to fundraising activities.

Nominated and elected charity of the years are based on the following fixed criteria:
  • The charity's work must have an International reach
  • The charity's objectives must be consistent with our Corporate Responsibility Strategy: "unlocking people's talent"
  • Our financial support must be able to have a transformational effect
  • The charity would benefit from receiving gifts in kind and can provide opportunities for partners and employees to get involved in volunteering projects, e.g. pro bono work and mentoring projects

For 2009/10, SJ Berwin is delighted to be partnering with Excellent Development, a charity which brings sustainable water supplies to some of the world's poorest communities. Its philosophy - to help communities to help themselves - and its long term vision means that our funding will not only help people today but will leave a long term legacy for future generations.

Last year we raised over £143,000 for Rwanda Restored, a charity seeking to help re-establish infrastructure and community in Rwanda so that its people are empowered to become self-sufficient. We specifically built and equipped a classroom block at Gihogwe High School, which will enable 160 Rwandan children to attend this school each year.

In 2007/08, we raised £89,000 for Tomorrow's Peoplean organisation that seeks to provide disadvantaged young people with the chance to turn their lives around through a programme of confidence building, practical skills and basic life coaching leading to employment.
In 2006/07, we raised £125,000 for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, which was used to specifically fund a Cystic Fibrosis Researcher for their unique gene therapy programme.
