About us : Belgium
Our Brussels team comprises Belgian advocaten/avocats, English solicitors, French avocats, Dutch advocaten and Spanish abogados, providing premier legal services in the European, Belgian and international marketplaces. The office is distinctly international in character and philosophy and offers organisations the support they need to successfully do business, delivering advice in a wide range of European languages.

EU & Consultancy

The historical focus of the Brussels practice is EU law, with an emphasis on competition matters, regulatory work, agriculture and foo
d law, internal market, trade law and litigation. We regularly represent clients before national authorities, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Civil Service Tribunal, the Court of First Instance and the European Court of Justice.

We have particular experience in matters involving EU and national merger control regulation and have ongoing extended lobbying contact with the various European institutions, enabling clients to understand fully how any changes in the law affect their business. Obtaining up-to-date, accurate information is a key requirement for all areas of EU legislation and the office provides clients with an early warning signal on all important EU developments.

Our specialist lawyers advise clients on all matters affecting the agriculture, fisheries and food sector, including agribusiness, agrochemicals, fishing and marine farming, food distribution and labelling, inspection procedures, and environmental issues.

The Brussels office is regularly awarded the management of both short and long term projects within the framework of the development cooperation programme financed by multilateral funds or co-financed by the European
Commission and third countries. We have particular experience of projects aimed at reforming justice and improving the respect of human rights. Our Brussels practice has also participated in projects with a commercial or economic component, dealing matters such as customs, trade and competition law.

Belgian Law

Over the years, our Belgian practice has grown significantly to meet the demands of our domestic and international clients. The Belgian practice works closely with the other offices in the provision of advice and assistance to clients in relation to transactions which often incorporate multi-jurisdictional elements.

We offer advice in the following specialist areas: corporate and commercial law, competition law, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures, commercial property and real estate, banking and finance, including securities and asset finance, tax and dispute resolution.

Maritime Law

The Brussels office has developed a niche practice in the arbitration and litigation of shipping and fishing disputes on a worldwide level, having represented clients in a wide range of jurisdictions. We have defended the interests of both private and public clients before various courts and tribunals, including the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS).

Our specialist lawyers advise clients on ship financing and ship building contracts, registration of vessels, manning requirements, and so on. Our team also has experience in the structuring of shipping companies and ownership of vessels, matters related to the transport of goods, such as logistics and distribution contracts and warehousing agreements. Clients regularly call upon us to ensure the arrest of vessels to obtain security for maritime claims. Conversely, we assist clients whose ships have been arrested in court proceedings to secure the quickest possible release of the vessel.
